Finding a good part-time job throughout your student years can be difficult.
What’s the first thing that drags you down?
DEBT.
About a third of American students borrow money to pay for college, and by 2020, the average student would be about $39,000 in debt — a new high — amounting to roughly $1.6 trillion.
Isn’t it awful? But today, I’m providing some students tips on how to make money while working to pay off their debt faster.
Let’s get going with 15 Ways to Make Money as a Student.
1. TUTORING
If you’ve been studying for a few years, you may use your existing expertise to instruct students who are a year or two behind you. Alternatively, if you were a math whiz in high school, you could assist those who were having trouble grasping ideas that you could understand in your sleep.
Tutoring might pay you $25 per hour on average, which is a great price considering you’ll be learning as well.
“If you like teaching and know your degree topic well, tutoring could be an excellent way to generate money,” says The Guardian.
2. TEFL(Teaching English as a Foreign Language)
Teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) is a lucrative job prospect for students. Many platforms don’t even require a qualification; all you need is the ability to communicate in English.
Some websites allow users to video chat in order to practise conversation, which is very cool because you get to meet people from all over the world while also earning money.
Of course, if you have the necessary qualification, you might earn a lot more money, but if you’re content to work for $10 an hour, choose your own hours, and work from home, this is a great option.
However, be aware that China recently prohibited all private tutors from providing online classes.
According to Reuters, all for-profit tutoring for courses in school curriculums in the country has been outlawed in an effort to reduce the financial burden on families and boost the country’s lagging birth rate.
3. Dog Walking
Dog culture is quite OK. People adore their dogs and are prepared to spend money to keep them content.
The average hourly cost for dog walking, according to payscale.com, is around $15, making it a quite lucrative job.
However, owners who are willing to pay for this will not engage someone who does not have a true passion for dogs.
As the dog walker, you’ll be responsible for keeping the dogs safe, playing with them, feeding and watering them, and occasionally even administering prescriptions.
Aside than that, it’s a piece of cake.
4. House / Pet-sitting
Offer to pet-sit overnight for the owners while they go on a vacation. “The average income for a pet sitter in the United States is slightly over $12 per hour,” according to Indeed.com
At $11.81 per hour, house sitters make a little less.
It goes without saying that holding house parties, trashing the place, and failing to take adequate care of the animals will not help you land new jobs in the future.
5. Transcriber
Who doesn’t want a job that doesn’t need them to wear pants or a bra?
You can accomplish this job from anywhere and at any time… Simply download, transcribe, and upload audio recordings.
Keep in mind that the assessments to gain the job are quite rigorous because there are several grammatical and language norms to observe.
It’s also important to understand that your rate of around $25/hour is calculated per hour of transcribed audio, with most tasks taking between 4 and 8 hours of labour, depending on audio quality and typing speed.
6. Get Paid to Exercise… Seriously
There are a number of applications that will pay you to exercise, but we’ll focus on one: SweatCoin.
Sweatcoin is a free app that rewards you for taking a walk outside. The App is a cryptocurrency-based platform that has been highlighted in The Telegraph, Forbes, and The Daily Mail.
They claim that when their currency releases this summer, the quantity of SweatCoins you own will be converted 1 SweatCoin for each coin, and that this will only happen once!
Each 1,000 steps earns you 0.95 sweatcoins, with a daily cap of 20. The money earned is transferred to PayPal, but in order to collect $1,000, you must walk 21 million steps. We’ll leave it to you to figure out how long it would take.
7. Leverage Any Skill
What do you excel at? Are you a designer? Then make t-shirts or stickers. Can you set up email and troubleshoot basic computer issues? Then extend that service to those who are unable to. These types of home-based small company ideas don’t require a large investment.
Examine whether you can promote your services using the internet, social media, local bulletin boards, or a community chat group. When people know you’re working hard to acquire money, they’re more likely to provide assistance.
8. Transport Anyone
Get those wheels rolling and generate some money if you have a car. Drop kids off at school, take the elderly to the store, or take a person with a broken finger to the doctor in the morning to assist families.
Lift Apps are amazing, but they may be inconsistent, and the price swings so much that it’s difficult to keep track — and they can even be dangerous — so provide an option to your community and you’ll make money every time you flip the key.
9. Waitering
Of course, we can’t forget about waitressing, which has literally paid off student loans for aeons. It might not be the most glamorous job, but it pays quick.
Servers are in high demand in the United States; Covid hit the restaurant industry hard, and many people left their post waitering and opted for jobs with less risk; however, as more people get vaccinated, job opportunities are becoming more plentiful — as an added bonus, it’s a good job for students to learn confidence and how to work well under pressure.
10. Sell Your Notes
If you’re the type of student who takes pride in their notes and makes them appear like a piece of art, this is a certain method to earn money without having to worry about finding the time.
This is a legitimate side hustle, and we’ve looked into various sites for you, including Course Hero, Nexus Notes, and Omega Notes.
11. Investing
So, we all know that investing won’t make a student money straight soon. However, even a small investment while you’re a student will pay off big time as you get older.
If possible, invest part of the proceeds from prior ideas. According to Bankrate.com, “College is actually one of the best ways to get started in the world of investing,” they add. Even individuals with a small number of money can start building a portfolio, which can be advantageous because you’ll be learning how to invest — and dealing with unavoidable losses — without risking a significant sum of money.”
12. Become a Walking Advertisement
We won’t sugarcoat it: this profession might be humiliating, but who cares when you have money in your pocket?
Like a result, you can find yourself dressed as a ketchup bottle, handing out coupons for a discount on the brand you’re wearing, or simply wearing a poster. If that’s what you’re doing, do it with zeal, and who knows what future job opportunities may arise. While you’re doing your research, discover what you can about branding your automobile and getting paid a monthly stipend for it.
13. Organize a Trip
To plan a trip, you don’t need to be a licenced travel guide. It may be a walking tour of your city’s local art — or accompanying folks on one of your favourite hiking paths… can go more imaginative and organise a day of jumping from one thrift shop to the next instead of a bar crawl.
Organize a group, charge per participant, and start saving money.
14. ‘Mortgage’ Your Future
College students have discovered a new way to raise funds: by mortgaging their futures. This is an income share agreement, or ISA, in which a firm provides funds for a student’s education in exchange for a piece of the student’s future pay.
ISAs do not earn interest, do not require a co-signer, and do not require good credit, according to Investopedia. Because the market is currently unregulated, do your investigation beforehand if this is something you’re interested in.
15. Grow and Sell Your Own Produce
This one will require some forethought and planning, but if you can turn over a respectable harvest, you should be able to earn a respectable profit.
If you have a garden, start planting some veggies, herbs, or perhaps a gooseberry bush or two, and either sell the produce to your fellow students or the local community, or use it to create pesto, jams, or a delicious garden salad to save money.
If you have more black than green fingers… You can always study more about it! Growing your own fruits and vegetables will benefit you in life… as well as the apocalypse.
So there you have it, students. I hope I’ve piqued your interest. Let me know by applauding this post!
